The brilliant ESP32 D1 Mini Single Board Computer!  This is tiny (39x31mm), yet has a full-on dual-core ESP32-WROOM-32 chip onboard (not the less powerful ESP8266).

Comes with pins.  Lots of pins:

  • 2x male (regular) Dupont pin strips.
  • 2x female (socket) Dupont strips.
  • 2x extra long Dupont strips with male and female sides.

These offer crazy amount of connectivity for a package so small and energy efficient.  Bluetooth - got it.  WiFi - got it.  Dual core 32bit processor - you can bet it's got it!

And coding against them?  No problem.  You can use the Arduino IDE with it (see links below for a tutorial).  Our preferred method is vscode via PlatformIO.  Just select WEMOS D1 MINI ESP32 as your board in PlatformIO and off you go!  In this way you can code against it as if it's an Arduino.  There's also the Espressif IoT Development Framework in there as an option if you install the Espressif Platform.

We use these on Windows 10 and Windows 11 PC's.  When plugged in, it's detected as a USB-Enhanced SERIAL CH9102 COM port, and just works :).

    Just for fun:

Tell me more about the case:

Hobby Stuff loves a good case, and this one is gorgeous!  It is manufactured in PETG, with external measurements of 44.5 x 35.8 x 9.9 mm.  It's a snug snap-fit with notches to pop it open once shut.

Hobby Stuff redesigned the source model to include vents so any heat can easily escape, which looks great!  There is also an access hole beside the reset button.  Our favorite part is the finish... it's almost sparkly and looks brilliant in our humble opinion!  Note that the pins are not available directly through the base/top of the case.  If that's important to you, give me us shout and we'll remodel it with slits along the base to expose them.

Also available in white, just drop us a message.

In usage, we recommend inserting the ESP32 by USB port first.  And when removing your snug-fitting ESP32 D1 Mini, please do not tug on any surface mounted components, as they can be delicate.
